We pour and air in good time, Perno 2003 is bright orange red, almost amber-periphery. The aroma is rich in fruit sweetness and offers generously in the form of the bazaar spices, strawberry cream, leather and spearmint. A powerful nose with a lot of authority and class. We've tried a couple of bottles in the autumn which had more of mature broth and soy toner, but this bottle certainly holds true with the impressions of barely a year ago .
tannins are the the larger side and took a huge grip on the tongue, oral cavity and tonsils - a real test for the non tannintolerante. A sting of alcohol heat in the background but does not interfere directly, the acids are included but do not dominate. This is a charming and maximum vital Monforte, Barolo albeit with vintage typically rough and a bit edgy mouth feel.
Again a stable delivery from one of our favorite producers. Last time we called Prapòn of Merlene Ottey, five years ago and Pernon for a wise old librarian. We still perceive some glen check, rocking chair, baby shoes and snugger but overall impression is very life-affirming and boldly. Do not panic having to empty the warehouse, we hereby Upgrade from a librarian to Sophia Loren, fifteen years ago.
